About

Great Mis Tor is a striking granite tor located on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park in England. It is a popular destination for tourists and hikers due to its impressive views, rich history, and unique geological features.

The tor is easily accessible from the nearby town of Tavistock, which is just a short drive away. There are several routes to reach the top of the tor, ranging from easy to challenging, depending on your level of fitness and experience. The most popular route is from the parking area at Two Bridges, which offers a relatively gentle ascent through a picturesque landscape of heather and gorse.

Once you reach the top of the tor, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding moorland, including the nearby peaks of Yes Tor and High Willhays. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the English Channel in the south and the Bristol Channel in the north.

In addition to its stunning vistas, Great Mis Tor is also steeped in history. The tor was used as a boundary marker in the 13th century, and there are numerous ancient settlements and standing stones scattered throughout the area. You can also visit the nearby Bronze Age settlement of Merrivale, which features several well-preserved stone circles and cairns.

One of the most unique features of Great Mis Tor is its geological makeup. The tor is made up of a type of granite called biotite granite, which gives it a distinctive pink and grey coloring. The granite has been weathered over time, creating a fascinating array of shapes and patterns that make it a popular destination for rock climbers and boulderers.

Whether you're a seasoned hiker, a history buff, or simply looking for a beautiful place to enjoy the great outdoors, Great Mis Tor is definitely worth a visit. With its stunning views, rich history, and unique geological features, it's no wonder why it has become such a beloved destination for tourists from around the world.
