The Tower's history dates back to the 16th century when it was built by Sir John Spencer, a wealthy merchant and lord mayor of London. The building's Tudor architecture is characterized by its tall chimneys, pointed arches, and intricate stonework, all of which are still visible today. The Tower has undergone several changes over the years, including being used as a prison during the 17th century and serving as a meeting place for local government officials in the 19th century.
